Ask any competitor how much a good result would depend on physical as opposed to mental ‘fitness’ and they would naturally reply that one needs to be 100% in both.  Any limiting belief regarding your abilities will be a barrier and run counter to your efforts.

NLP includes useful techniques that can help sports men and women improve their performances. Changing limiting beliefs and creating those that empower positively can impact performance effectively.

Another way that NLP can help performance is via powerful visualization methods. Through visualizing the ideal way to perform the technique before you actually do it directly trains your neurology.

In the 80’s, The Soviets experimented with this and had some remarkable results.  According to Dr. Charles A. Garfield, president of Performance studies Institute in Berkely, California, a group of worls class athletes were divided up into four groups. Group one spent 100% of their time in training. Group 2 spent 75% of their time training, and 25% of  their time visualising the exact movements and accomplishments they wanted to achieve in their sport. The third group split their efforts 50/50 and the fourh spent 25% of the time training and 75% of the time visualising.  Remarkably, at the Winter Olympics of 1980 in Lake Placid, the fourth group showed the most improvement, followed by the third, second, and lastly, the first!
